JOIN us for an evening of singing – and talking – the Blues as Martin Huckett and Sliding Delta perform songs from the early 20th Century rural Deep South.
“It was a major element of New Orleans jazz and also gave birth to rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and the British blues and folk revival of the 1960's that completely changed the course of popular music around the world,” said Martin, a retired journalist who used to work for the Kentish Independent in Wellington Street, Woolwich.
Sliding Delta are regular performers on the club circuit and are one of the few bands in London playing this music in the style of the original Mississippi songsters like Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton.
The songs will be linked by a narrative from Martin, who will explain where the music came from and how it developed.
