The one person who probably won’t mind us celebrating Bob Dylan’s 75th birthday on the occasion of his 77th birthday is Mr Dylan himself.
Throughout his career, and especially in the early days, “Bobby” told the press (including the man who faithfully wrote his LP liner notes) that he ran away from home several times and travelled across America with various “medicine shows”. He was in fact upstairs in his room in Hibbing, Minnesota, with a hot drink listening to the likes of Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams while reading every book he could get hold of.
His fourth album – Another Side of Bob Dylan – included the fascinating My Back Pages with its chorus line: ‘Ah, but I was so much older then/I’m younger than that now’.
So…happy 75th, Bob Dylan, from Greenwich Theatre and the Bob Dylan Experience – Fred Ward on lead vocals, guitar and harmonica; Steve Heath, bass and backing vocals; Matt Withey, lead guitar, backing vocals; and Steve Greenwood on drums.
