This is an important year for us as we celebrate half a century since Greenwich Theatre was reopened by and for the people of Greenwich. There are many ways in which we could celebrate, but more than anything else it seems right to honour the spirit of adventure that artistic director Ewan Hooper and his team brought to the venue 50 years ago. When the venue reopened it had been closed for decades, so Ewan took the opportunity to reimagine it as a home for new work and new ideas – many of which went on to form the basis of hugely successful shows here in Greenwich, on tour and in the West End. Greenwich Theatre became the launch-pad for actors, directors, designers, writers and more, and many of the now iconic names in theatre had an early relationship with this venue.
